In 1884, IWC adopted the Pallweber system developed by watchmaker Joseph Pallweber from Salzburg and create the first IWC “digital” pocket watch.

This watch does not display time by the pointer, but shows digitals in a separate window, and only seconds are displayed by the pointer. 125 years later, IWC has set a new milestone in the global watch-making industry: the Da Vinci perpetual calendar watch with a large digital display of date and the month. The power required to change the display of month by the end of the month and the date is accumulated little by little through out the whole month. Fast conversion devices designed for this purpose will use this power to achieve the conversion process. The energy would be released by the end of month, and the time displayed is thus moved forward. Also the conversion process does not have any problem, when in a leap year the time needs to be adjusted. Timing can run continuously, and has no significant effect to the speed rate of the watch, with the returning function, the time can be reset to zero without being paused to stop at first. The new IWC self-made 89800 movement has 474components, providing 68 hours power reserve. To some extent, the movement is like a small power plant. We can also say that this is the culmination of the great achievements in the watch-making industry.
